Anthony David Medina, 37, of Newport Beach, California, was sentenced yesterday to 10 years in state prison for bilking clients out of $2.5 million in insurance premiums. Between 2003 and 2007, Medina, through his firm, Prompt Insurance Agency, accepted premiums for workers compensation and liability insurance which he used to finance a lavish lifestyle. Medina previously pleaded guilty in to 152 felony counts including forgery, grand theft, filing false tax returns, and identity theft, among others. He faces a restitution hearing November 12th. Medina's wife, Vanessa Chaverri, 37, pleaded guilty in June to one felony count of filing a false tax return and was sentenced to 90 days in jail, plus probation and nearly $1/2 million in restitution, for her role in the scheme.
