Doctor and Administrator Sentenced In $26 Million Florida Medicare Fraud Case

Ronald Harris, 58 and Mariela Rodriguez, 40, were sentenced yesterday to 84 months and 70 months, respectively in federal prison for their role in a $26.2 million fraud perpetrated against the Medicare program. Harris plead guilty to charges of conspiracy, false claims and paying kickbacks related to an HIV infusion program insured by Medicare. Rodriguez plead guilty to conspiracy and false claims. Rodriguez was the Administrative Director of the Saint Jude Rehab Center in Florida, owned by Carlos Benitez and Louis Benitez, who were each separately charged in the fraud of money laundering and Medicare fraud. According to Rodriguez' testimony, Saint Jude was used "solely for the purpose of committing Medicare fraud."
