Scott and Melissa Nichols of Salinas, California and the owners of Scott Motors, plead guilty to embezzling more than $1.2 million from the used car dealership they own. They each plead guilty to 12 counts of grand theft and face up to more than 13 years in prison, plus fines and restitution upon sentencing, which is scheduled for January 30, 2009. Also charged is Melissa Nichols' father, Orville Remick, with four criminal counts. According to prosecutors, the Nichols sold trade-in cars but did not pay off the original owners' balances to banks, pocketing the cash instead. The Nichols were initially indicted in February on 45 counts of embezzlement and false charging.FraudTalk is a blog focused on the review and discussion of recent significant cases of fraud, corruption and employee misconduct - particularly major embezzlement cases in the US.
