BEDFORD, Va. — A former Bedford County supervisor convicted of embezzlement and money laundering will spend a year in jail.

Media outlets report that a Bedford County Circuit Court judge sentenced Earl Anthony Ware on Monday to 11 years on each of six embezzlement counts and six money laundering counts. The judge then suspended all but one year on each count. The sentences will run concurrently.

Ware also must pay more than $295,000 in restitution.

Ware was accused of taking money from a benefit fund set up for a family whose mother died. He also was accused of taking money from the Big Island Fire Department.

He pleaded no contest in January.
