Missouri Hospital Executive Sentenced For $829K Fraud

Robert Steven Brodzin, 41, of O'Fallon, Missouri was sentenced yesterday to 41 months in prison for stealing nearly $829,000 from Shriners Hospital for Children near St. Louis. Brodzin, who served as the hospital's Director of Fiscal Services until earlier this year, plead guilty to one felony count of mail fraud in August. Prosecutors said Brodzin created three fake companies to which he issued checks with the unknowing approval of his superiors. The fraud allegedly took place from 2004 until early 2008. Brodzin, who has also agreed to repay the nearly $829,000 he embezzled, was hired in 2000 by the hospital and was a CPA. He had used the stolen funds to purchase a St. Petersburg, Florida condominium, luxury automobiles and a host of other personal items and luxury travel packages.

This case is particularly despicable since the hospital was set up for the purpose of helping special needs children. I am surprised he got away with only one count of mail fraud.
