Former Michigan Controller Sentenced To 1 Year For $2.2 Million Embezzlement

Pamela Blodgett, 56, formerly of Holly, Michigan, was sentenced to one year in prison and five years probation for embezzling more than $2.2 million from Vinyl Tech Window Systems where she had been employed as a controller for 10 years. She was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $1.72 million. Blodgett plead no contest to five embezzlement counts last month. According to a civil complaint and prosecutors, Blodgett funnelled funds from the company to a lawn maintenance company she co-owned with her husband, William Blodgett. Blodgett also allegedly embezzled by way of improper credit card charges for vacations, jewelry, clothes, electronics and other expensive personal items. Vinyl Tech owner Paul Baker has had to lay off 45 people as a result of the embezzlement, which he believes exceeded $4 million.

Read the story here.

I just don't understand our legal system. Here all those people lost their jobs and some lost their homes because of this woman and she only gets 1 year in jail. Please explain this to me.

I am sorry, Gail, but I cannot explain it. Seems to me that they should have gone after the husband too...

Believe half of what you read and a quarter of what you you hear, and maybe then, and only then, will you be near the truth. This case is nowhere near as clear cut as the snippet of news details and the numbers do not match up. If the company owner claims over $4.0MM in damages, why would the forensic audit only show $2.2MM? And why would restitution call for less? And best of all, perhaps the failing housing market, crumbling real estate and the state of the economy could account for the decrease in business for a window company. Maybe the owner was funneling funds himself via cash purchases?????

Some people need to read between the lines. Of course people are going to believe Mr. Baker, the owner of Vinyl Tech as a "victim" but not everyone knows what Mr. Bakers has done. How about the harassment that he has caused the family of Mrs. Blodgett. Stalking the family and her. The reason no charges were pressed against Mr. Blodgett is because he knew nothing of this and he did not have anything to do with this. Get the facts straight before making accusations. And to accuse the Daughter and Son n Law, who he knows nothing of is slander. Don't worry, Mr. Baker will get what is coming to him. Why don't you ask Mr. Baker about all of his Son's problems and all of the money his son has taken from so call Mr. and Mrs. Baker? Do you honestly believe that Mr. Baker is innocent. Mr. Baker claims he has had to file for Bankruptcy because of this, not so, he just recently filed if I recall. No one seems to get the facts straight! The judge is this case is CORRUPT and so is Mr. Baker's attorney . As one person on here stated, there are two sides to every story, and clearly Mr. Baker is leaving out his side or fabricating his side. Bottom line, Mrs. Blodgett did her time as charged. The criminal justice system needs to worry about things more down the lines of rapist, murderers and child molesters. Mr. Baker is not so innocent in all of these doings, he is a dirty dirty man who needs to have some criminal charges brought up against him. Hopefully this will all come out soon, however if it does not, I believe there is a saying "what goes around, comes around". If there is money "hidden" as Mr. Baker claims, why hasn't his attorney and the court systems found it, oh I know why, because there is none. People need to stop making accusations and worry about themselves. No one is perfect, people make mistakes!! Mrs. Blodgett did her time, now get over it and get on with life.

My parents were friends with the Blodgetts for a very long time. They were snobby and spent money like it grew on trees. Bill knew he what his wife was doing, the checks were cut from Vinyl Tech to his lawn maintenance company. Did he really think his piddly lawn maintenance company warranted a $2.2 million (or more) paycheck from Vinyl Tech? Laughable. Now they've moved to Florida, where all the criminals go, so that they don't have to pay back any of the money they stole. They are despicable, disgusting thieves and both deserve jail terms beyond one to three years.

If the Blodgett's were so snobby, then what does that say about your parents? I am sick and tired of seeing people who know nothing about this situation put there two cents in. Bill knew NOTHING about this, he did not cut the checks for the business and if your parents knew this was going on they are just as guilty since they said NOTHING. You people need to get a life and learn the laws. If anyone really knew The Blodgett's then they would not be posting negative thoughts on this site. It is pretty sad that Mr. Baker has to ask for help on a blog. Pretty pathetic in my eyes!! People get a life and mind your own business, and yes this is my business so I can comment!!

You must not know the same Blodgetts as I do. They have taken in kids who had no place to live and helped many other kids. My guess is that you don't know them you only know Paul Baker

I know Mr Baker personally and he is a very very wise man and a close friend. He is nothing but an innocent man who loves ice cream. I look up to him in every way and this makes me upset. The Blodgetts have brought so many hardships to this wonderful man.

Amen to that...
