Monica Ann Conyers, 44, of Detroit, a former city councilwoman and the wife of US Congressman John Conyers (D-MI), pleaded guilty to bribery and conspiracy charges Friday. Monica Conyers' guilty plea to one count of conspiracy to commit bribery culminated a year-long investigation into a pay to play scheme involving a $1.2 billion sludge disposal contract with the City of Detroit. According to prosecutors, Conyers admitted to taking at least $6,000 from Detroit businessman Rayford Jackson, an executive of Synagro Technologies Inc., to change her vote in favor of a $1.2-billion sludge disposal contract in 2007.Read the criminal Information here.
