South Dakota Fair Manager Charged With Embezzlement

Kathleen "Kathy" Louise Gourley, 51, of Salem, South Dakota and the former office manager of the Sioux Empire Fair Association, was charged today with embezzling at least $100,000 from the association over a four period. According to the complaint, which charges Gourley on a single count of "grand theft by embezzlement over $100,000," Gourley took cash from deposits and created new deposit slips for the remaining check deposits. According to the affidavit in support of arrest warrant for Gourley, she admitted to stealing the money when confronted by company auditors and claimed to have used the money to support her two daughters, a relative and two needy families in the Sioux Falls area. The affidavit suggests that Gourley may have taken as much as $383,000 over a five year period from the association.
