Joell Thompson, 41, of Bancroft, Idaho and the former Bancroft City Clerk, was sentenced to serve 14 months probation plus community service for embezzling more than $170,000 but less than $200,000 from the municipality. Prosecutors alleged that Thompson's scheme spanned a five year period, beginning in 2004. Thompson reportedly claimed that she took the money to help a family business. She must also make restitution and has reportedly already paid back about $80,000.
