Cynthia Jan Harris, 51, plead guilty yesterday to charges that she had embezzled from her employer, Mayes County Federal Credit Union. Harris admitted that she had stolen more than $1.65 million from June 2000 through July 2007. She was able to accomplish the theft by depositing bogus checks into existing accounts of nine relatives and then withdrawing the funds by writing checks on those accounts. Harris served as the banks assistant manager and chief financial officer. According to reports, the embezzlement was caught as a result of an audit.
