Patricia Ladawn Poehls, 37, of Bruceville, Texas, was arrested last week for allegedly embezzling some $154,000 from St. Jerome Catholic Church, where she had served as a bookkeeper and was in charge of its youth program. Poehls allegedly wrote checks to herself and used the church credit card utilizing the pastor's electronic signature. The scam began in November 2007, according to prosecutors and Poehls spent the money on “school, hotels, airplane tickets and other items” for her personal use.
