Cynthia Jan Harris, 52, of Chelsea, Oklahoma, was sentenced to 63 months in prison for embezzling $1,645,482 from the Mayes County Federal Credit Union where she had been employed as an assistant manager and chief financial officer. She was also ordered to pay restitution in that amount. Harris, who was originally charged with the thefts on August 25, 2008, pleaded guilty on November 6th, 2009. The thefts ocurred over a 7 year period from 2000 to 2007, according to prosecutors. She had no prior criminal history and only one speeding ticket to her name, according to her defense counsel.
