Former Vermont Town Clerk Charged In $100+K Embezzlement

Suzanne LaBombard, 50, was formally charged today with embezzling at least $100,000 from the town of Isle La Motte, Vermont for which she served as town clerk. LaBombard resigned in March after the misappropriation came to light and claims to have repaid the money she stole after a settlement was reached with the town. Nevertheless, investigators continued a criminal case until today's charges were brought. Specifically, LaBombard faces five felony counts, including four false claims charges and one embezzlement charge. She is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday and faces up to 30 years in prison, plus fines and restitution.
