Dorothy Richardson Triplett, 38, the payroll clerk for Washington Park Village, Illinois, pleaded guilty last week to embezzling some $144,000 from the municipality. Triplett plead guilty to two counts of "misappropriation of assets" in a scheme that involved numerous transfers of small amounts of money, between $200 and $6,000 between 2006 and 2007. She also allegedly conspired with another individual to steal an additional $369,587. According to prosecutors, Triplett has assisted the authorities in the case. She faces up to 20 years in prison, plus a fine of $250,000 and restitution upon sentencing which is scheduled for March 2009.
