Dolores Arriola Espino, 48, longtime Garland, Texas school administrator, was sentenced to 10 months in prison, plus restitution, last week for embezzling some $92,112.50 from the school system. Espino had been employed for 22 years in varying capacities, most recently as Special Programs Federal Bookkeeper, which she held for about five years until she was terminated in 2007. Espino reportedly created a fictitious vendor, "A.Z." which supposedly provided translation services. She then created bogus invoices which the school district paid and she collected. Espino was originally arrested in August 2007 on suspicion of theft.
