Michigan Woman Charged With Embezzling $700K From Hockey Association

Kimberly Knight, 44, of Chelsea, Michigan, was arrested and charged with 3 counts of embezzlement in the alleged theft of some $700,000 from the Ann Arbor Amateur Hockey Association for whom she had worked as finance manager. The theft occurred between June 2005 until it was discovered in August 2007, according to prosecutors.

Update (7/26/10): Knight, now 46, was ordered to serve to concurrent 2 to 10 and 2 to 15 year prison sentences for her embezzlement of what is now believed to be at least $934,000. She had been given the opportunity to make restitution, but when that was not forthcoming, Circuit Judge Melinda Morris ordered her prison sentencing. Knight also has since filed for bankruptcy and has also been charged with passing bad checks. Read the updated story here (hat tip: reader Ed).

Update 1/27/11): Knight, now 47, was released on parole this week after serving only six months in prison.
