US Embassy Worker In Haiti Pleads Guilty To $850K Theft

Jean G. Saint-Joy, 25, a/k/a Gary Saint-Joy, a/k/a Garry Saint-Joy, a citizen of Haiti and employed as a cashier at the US Embassy in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, has plead guilty to one count of theft of nearly $850,000 from the US State Department. According to prosecutors, Saint-Joy submitted fraudulent documentation for reimbursements starting in or about 2003 and continuing until early 2008. He also obtained cash advances fraudulently. Saint-Joy faces 10 years in prison, plus a fine of $250,000 upon sentencing which is scheduled for May 26, 2009.
