Joanne L. Hippeli, 51, of Milford Township, Pennsylvania, was sentenced to 9 to 23 months in the county prison followed by three years probation for embezzling some $400,000 from Foulkeways at Gwynedd, a retirement center, with which she had been employed as accounts payable and receivable clerk from 1981 until 2006. She plead guilty to one felony count of "theft by failure to make the required disposition of funds." Hippeli was fired when the thefts were uncovered by the CFO who noticed a missing check from the books and ordered a forensic audit. According to prosecutors, she wrote 47 checks to herself, forging signatories, as well as took cash from receipts from the retirement center's coffee shop, gift shop, beauty salon and other operations.
