Steven Edward Vaughn, 63, a retired sheriff's lieutenant and former paid volunteer for the Riverside County Fire Department, who has been held at the Robert Presley Detention Center since January 2007 on $1.2 million bail, has been ordered for trial. Vaughn and cohort, Michael A. Burton, a former Department employee, have been charged with embezzling some $1.2 million.
